Zeolite similar to expanded perlite, is a versatile substance that can be utilized for various purposes.
For instance, in aquaculture, zeolite is used for ammonia filtration in fish hatcheries and as biofiltration media. It can be used for water purification as a secondary filtration unit after biological purification and/or aeration, as a supporting material for bacteria, and as a filtering medium to remove solids and suspended particles while simultaneously removing unwanted ions.
Zeolite is also frequently used in agriculture for odor control, environmental control of captive animals, and as animal feed additives. Adding about 5% to livestock diets, it can reduce ammonia and odor emissions, improve feed utilization, aid in fungal toxin absorption, and provide trace elements.
Additionally, it is used in gardening for nurseries, greenhouses, flower art, transplanting trees and shrubs, and as a soil conditioner for lawn grass and in reclamation, revegetation, and landscaping.
Household products also take advantage of zeolite's odor and liquid adsorption characteristics, including home and pet odor control, reducing moisture, and as a carpet cleaner.
In industrial settings, zeolite is used as an absorbent for oil and spills and for gas separation.
It is also used in the treatment of radioactive waste and water purification for removing heavy metals, swimming pool wastewater treatment, and removing ammonia and ammonium from urban sludge and wastewater, septic tank leaching sites, and more.
